Journey to PhilanTHIRTY!!!

I’m a Texas native and a DC transplant, and I’ll be turning 30 very soon…Eek!

 

Giving back has been a part of my life long before I really understood its true value. At the age of 9, I was preparing dozens of brown bag lunches with my church family and distributing them to homeless citizens “under the bridge” in downtown Houston. As a teen, each year during the holiday season, I knew I’d be expected to spend at least one Saturday preparing, assembling and delivering care packages to residents at a senior care facility.

 

Fast forward to today, I am a first-generation college graduate (HU!) with more than seven years of work experience in the non-profit sector. In my line of work, I read troubling statistics every day that are disheartening and often times frustrating. On the other side of that, I see many great programs and organizations that are working to improve those stats but lack the resources they need to do quality work or really maximize their mission.

 

When I’m not working, I’m searching for my next vacation getaway - I love travel! In the past 5 years, I’ve visited 12 countries across 3 continents. My original plans for my 30th birthday included a trip to either Paris, France or Lima, Peru but as I gave it more thought, I realized I wanted to do something that included you - my friends and family -  and my passion for helping others, all in a travel-themed way.  

 

And so, Journey to PhilanTHIRTY  was created. My goal is to not only raise money but to also raise awareness of our philanthropic power! Be sure to also read about the three featured organizations that will receive the raised funds. Thanks for tuning in.
